Frequently Asked Questions
What is the serving size used?
All serving sizes provided are Dessert Servings (2" x 1") See photo
What do I do if I’m running late?
If you’re running late to a pick up please send a message ASAP, I understand if there’s traffic or an emergency but I won’t know unless you tell me and I will be stuck waiting all day.
How do I display the cake?
Buttercream cakes are more fragile than ganache, please keep the cakes out of direct sunlight as they will melt faster. Humid and Hot weather will mean the cake cannot be out for as long.
Cakes will last around 3 hours at room temperature and if you notice they are getting too soft or starting to lean its best to cut then or put back into the fridge until you are cutting it.
Where is pick up?
CAKEDBYZENA HQ is located in Bankstown. The address will be sent 48hrs before pick up.
How do I transport the cake?
First step is making sure your car is the coldest temperature possible.
The safest way to drive with a cake is on the floor of the car, because it is a flat surface and the cake will not slide. If you have a nonslip mat at home bring it along because that’s even better.
Your legs & the chairs are not flat and the cake will slide into the box and the product will be damaged.
CAKEDBYZENA will not be held liable for cakes that are damaged after pick up.
How do I cut the cake to get the most servings?
A cutting and storage guide will be attached to every cake box.
How do I store the desserts?
1. Storage Before the Event
- Refrigeration is Key: Because buttercream is butter-based, it should be kept in the fridge (ideally in its box) until a few hours before the event. This keeps the design firm and prevents any "sweating" or melting.
- Keep it Covered: Store the cake away from strong-smelling foods (like onions or garlic). Butter is a fat and acts like a sponge for surrounding odors!
- Travel Tips: Always transport your cake on a flat surface, such as the floor of the passenger side or the trunk of an SUV. Never place it on a car seat, as the slight tilt can cause the cake to slide.
2. Serving & Temperature
- The "Room Temp" Rule: Buttercream tastes best when it has softened to room temperature. Take the cake out of the fridge 1 to 2 hours before serving (depending on how warm the room is).
- Texture Check: You’ll know it’s ready when the frosting gives slightly if pressed gently. Eating a cold buttercream cake is like eating a cold stick of butter—you lose all that creamy, melt-in-the-mouth magic!
3. Display Tips
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Even on a cool day, direct sunlight hitting a window can turn a buttercream cake into a "leaning tower" very quickly. Always display in a shaded, cool area.
- Outdoor Events: If your event is outdoors in the heat, we recommend keeping the cake inside until the very last moment. If it's over 25°C, buttercream should not stay outside for more than 30–60 minutes.
- The Sturdy Stand: Ensure your cake stand is level and can support the weight of the cake. A wobbly stand is a cake's worst enemy.
4. Leftovers
- Airtight is Best: Once the cake is cut, the exposed sponge will start to dry out. Cover the sliced area with plastic wrap or move slices to an airtight container.
- Freezing: You can freeze buttercream cake slices for up to 3 months! Wrap them well in plastic wrap and then a layer of foil. Thaw in the fridge overnight when the craving hits.
